The matching auction can be regarded as an auction which lets the Buyer ESTABLISH the price first and then (if this price MATCHES the expectations of the Sellers) choose from the items available. If Buyer's price is lower then the Seller's price, nothing happens. Buyers can only increase the price they want to offer for an item, while Sellers can only decrease their price (if they want to).
If we take a closer look at existing online auctions, it becomes clear that they all oblige their participants to sell or to buy in the situation when the Buyer "wins" the auction (this "winning" can be staged up, and more often than not, you will be bidding against the Seller himself).
Unlike these, at our auction nobody is obliged to anything even if a match happens. This is a slow auction and it is intended to be slow.
And even if the Buyer is ready to buy, it is the Seller, who decides whether he will sell to this Buyer, for this price and Buyer location, or not.
The matching auction has no means of helping the Buyer to make the final decision, therefore every Buyer has to correlate the information
he gets in case of matching with his own notions of "market price". The Buyer is left alone with his desire to buy and with
no "market" around to tell him how much it "really costs".
No Buyer knows about someoneelse's bidding, neither the Seller know the offers of Buyers untill they (the Buyers) disclose them by pressing the button "Buy". The situation, when the Seller can chose between several Buyers (the Buyers having no idea about how numerous they are) is awaited and welcome. It fact, this situation is the essence of the matching auction. Thus, the Buyers who have more money have no advantage against one Buyer who was the most generous from the very start.
In the end, the Seller decides, whose price (and location) he likes best and to whom he will sell the item.
The matching auction has several particularities:
The condition of an item is a limiting factor. If you want "New In Box" all other conditions will be ignored.
The match only takes place, if the brand and model match completely (to the letter). Which means, a Seller can be selling a "Carl Zeiss Jena MC Sonnar 200mm F2.8" (standard representation) or "Carl Zeiss 200/2.8 lens in outstanding condition". Both will be found if you use the Search facility. In the second case the Seller breaks the rules on purpose. The non-standard representation means that the Seller expects fewer matches, but with higher prices. In order to make an offer for this item Buyers will have to place a corresponding new demand matching to the letter the Sellers representation ("Carl Zeiss 200/2.8 lens in outstanding condition" in the example case) . The matching auction introduces several new ideas:
The sales process is constructed around a particular working item with Its unique serial number. It can be new or used, we don't care. It can be sold by the owner or by a third party, we don't care. The Seller is not paid, untill the Buyer confirms his satisfaction with the item or returns it.
Serial numbers are stored in the database after a successful sale. If the sale results in a litigation, this particular serial number will not be accepted for sale again.
It is the Buyer who establishes the final price which will always exceed the Seller's price.
The Seller is paid only AFTER the Buyer receives the item and confirms his satisfaction with it.
The sale process is completed in accordance with the Procedure which provides for complete Buyer satisfaction or full refund.
The matching auction is most suitable for:
Collectible cameras and lenses. (It permits the Seller to increase the margin and in the same time it protects the Buyer from all kinds of dishonest Sellers who would simply reject the idea of not being paid before they ship their broken items to the Buyer.
Selling out the remaining film stocks. We have organized a special kind of "find and purchase right away" facility especially for the Sellers of large film stocks with perfect record. Actually, when you purchase from a film stock Seller at NEWART.PHOTO you bypass the auction. All film stocks sold through NEWART.PHOTO are being sold "as is" and shall not be protected by our Procedure. The Seller in this case receives the money beforehand and directly which means that the Buyer will not be refunded should anything go wrong. Our Marketplace is simply an ordinary online shop where everything has a 10 % discount for our status members (i.e. for our members having the status of Artists, Models and Crafters). Only Companies that agree to fulfill this discount can sell at NEWART.PHOTO's Marketplace. The Marketplace together with the 10 % discount were designed to be an encouragement for our status members.
Any price tag for any product being sold at our Markeplace will be automatically 10 % less for a status member and will remain the same for free site members, who don't have this privilege.
The Marketplace may be especially useful for Crafters and Models. You can switch the view of the control panel to "Marketplace view" to see what is on sale at this moment.
Any Company which agrees to offer a 10 % to our status members can sell at our Marketplace. We put no limits on the products to be sold. The exact number of our status members will be available to any Company on demand. Please, contact the site Administrator.
